Hanami 26th April 2025
6th annual celebration of the arrival of spring with a touch of Japan.
Hanami at Hanspaulka park will take place on April 26th, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Pink petals with a characteristic heart-shaped shape are taking over Japan every spring. Picnics and hanami (flower observing) celebrations are a real phenomenon. The Japanese doesn´t hold back, apart from various sakura-themed decorations you can also find sakura as a flavoring for coffee, alcohol, sweets or even in toothpaste!
The celebrations were originally intended exclusively for nobles, but later they became almost a ritual even for ordinary people. The history of Hanami in Japan dates back to the 8th century. The Japanese believed that deities settled in the blooming flowers and so they placed offerings under the sakura and plum trees to express the hope that the harsh winter would soon end. In Japan, the sakura flower is still a symbol of fleeting beauty, life, death and rebirth.
Today, tourists from all over the world do not hesitate to set out to see the beauty of Japanese cherry blossoms, and even at the cost of large crowds, they go to the most famous places to capture the uniqueness of the moment. Thanks to the fact that cherry blossoms are popular worldwide, we also have several options in the Czech Republic where you can enjoy hanami in the most authentic form.

Hanspaulka Park may not be the largest, but its sakura trees are first-class and this place has become a favorite of ours. That’s why we’re returning enthusiastically for the sixth time and will turn the space into a little Japan for a day. Will we be able to celebrate hanami under the blooming sakura this year? Come and see for yourself!
We’ll gradually publish the program in the feed of Facebook event. You can look forward to great Japanese street food, traditional sweets or beer with sakura or matcha. We’ll also bring lots of stalls with little things that will make you happy even after the sakura blossoms disappear. Are you curious about what your name would look like written in Japanese? Have our calligrapher write it for you. For creative people, we’ll once again offer several art workshops, where you can try to fold your own sakura flowers out of paper, paint them on porcelain or tie them from a mizuhiki vine! For the youngest, there will be a Children’s Zone full of games, workshops and face painting. We’re also preparing competitions for tempting prizes!
