SHODO for hospital Motol
Calligraphy for Motol is a project of the Czech-Japanese Association supporting children undergoing treatment for oncological and haematological diseases at Motol University Hospital in Prague.
The project began in 2015 with a pilot series of therapeutic Japanese calligraphy workshops organised in cooperation with specialists working with young patients. The workshops were led by Japanese calligraphers and advanced students of the Czech-Japanese Association’s calligraphy courses.
Working with brush and ink offers children an opportunity to create, concentrate on something new and enjoy a moment away from the everyday reality of demanding medical treatment. The workshops are adapted to the specific needs and conditions of the young participants.
The project has also presented the children’s work to the public. The first exhibition was held in 2016 at Motol University Hospital.
Calligraphy for Motol brings together Japanese culture, creativity and support for children facing difficult circumstances.
