Events & Projects
Throughout the year, the Czech-Japanese Association organises and co-organises festivals, cultural events, lectures, workshops and other projects introducing Japanese culture, traditions and contemporary Japan to the Czech public.
Alongside our major recurring events, we also run long-term projects and specialised interest groups and cooperate with Czech and Japanese artists, experts and partner organisations.
Regular Events
Eigasai – Japanese Film and Culture Festival
A festival dedicated to Japanese cinema and culture. Each edition explores a selected theme through film screenings and accompanying cultural programmes, offering a broader perspective on Japanese society, history and culture.
Hanami
Our spring gathering under the cherry blossoms in Prague’s Hanspaulka district. Inspired by the Japanese tradition of hanami, the event combines cherry-blossom viewing with cultural performances, workshops, Japanese food and a shared picnic.
Tanabata
A summer festival inspired by the Japanese Star Festival and the legend of Orihime and Hikoboshi. Visitors can discover Tanabata traditions, write their wishes on colourful tanzaku and enjoy a varied programme dedicated to Japanese culture.
Japanese Days at Průhonice Botanical Garden
A traditional celebration of Japanese culture in the beautiful surroundings of the Průhonice Botanical Garden. What originally developed around exhibitions of ikebana has gradually grown into a weekend programme presenting Japanese arts, music, theatre, martial arts and other cultural traditions.
Katana Matsuri
A festival dedicated to the Japanese sword, its history, craftsmanship, artistic qualities and cultural significance.
Budō Matsuri
A festival of Japanese martial arts presenting various schools and disciplines of budō. It offers an opportunity to discover Japanese martial arts not only as physical disciplines, but also as an important part of Japanese culture and tradition.
New Year’s Concert
A traditional cultural gathering organised by the Czech-Japanese Association since 2008 as a way of thanking our members, partners and friends for their support and cooperation.
Long-term Projects & Interest Groups
Nihontō Kenkyūkai
A study group dedicated to the Japanese sword, focusing on its history, manufacture, artistic qualities and cultural significance.
Budō Kenkyūkai
A group bringing together people interested in Japanese martial arts and their deeper study in historical and cultural context.
GO Club Můstek
Regular meetings for players and enthusiasts of the traditional strategy game Go, welcoming both experienced players and those who are just discovering the game.
Calligraphy for Motol
A long-term project of the Czech-Japanese Association that has been bringing Japanese calligraphy workshops to children undergoing treatment at Motol University Hospital since 2015.
Harumi Fund
A fund supporting activities and projects that contribute to a better understanding of Japan and the development of Czech-Japanese relations.
