Nihonto Kenkyukai

Nihonto Kenkyukai – Society for the Study of the Japanese Sword is part of the Czech-Japanese Association. It brings together specialists, collectors and enthusiasts interested in the Japanese sword – nihontō.

The Japanese sword is much more than a historical weapon. It can be explored through its history, craftsmanship, technology, art and cultural traditions. Nihonto Kenkyukai aims to promote a deeper understanding of these different aspects of the Japanese sword.

The group organises regular public lectures and meetings called Hovory o meči (Talks on the Japanese Sword), as well as seminars focusing on specific topics, including the proper handling, etiquette and care of Japanese swords.

Every three years, Nihonto Kenkyukai also organises Katana Matsuri, a festival dedicated to the Japanese sword, and regularly participates in selected events of the Czech-Japanese Association.
