Harumi Fund

The Harumi Fund was established in memory of Harumi Yamada, a remarkable woman who dedicated many years to promoting Japanese culture and strengthening Czech–Japanese relations.

Harumi was closely connected with the Czech-Japanese Association as a teacher of Japanese language, calligraphy and sumi-e ink painting, as well as a volunteer, organiser, mentor and friend. After her sudden passing in 2021, her husband donated CZK 800,000 from her estate to the Czech-Japanese Association to help continue the work and ideas that were important to her.

The fund supports projects that make Japanese culture accessible to the public, including activities for children, schools, seniors and disadvantaged groups. It may also support exhibitions and students of Japanese arts, as well as selected educational and publishing projects related to Japanese language, calligraphy and sumi-e.

Through the Harumi Fund, we hope that Harumi Yamada’s enthusiasm for sharing Japanese culture and bringing people together will continue to inspire new projects and encounters.
