Exhibition: Melody of the Seasons

Don’t miss: The exhibition by Japanese artist Fumio Komori and artist Olga Yakubovskaya bridges two worlds through their works. Both creators find inspiration in Japanese culture and the changing of the seasons. Everything—from food to hair ornaments—adheres to the principle of seasonality, which is especially true for Kyoto, the cultural capital of Japan. Painter Fumio Komori, who creates using the traditional technique of ink wash painting on wet paper (sumi-e), originally hails from this very city. Olga Yakubovskaya visited Japan in 2016, where she first truly discovered and connected with its culture.

In his paintings, Fumio Komori captures a deep reverence and a fragile relationship with nature. With great sensitivity, he focuses on the smallest details, whether it is a little frog singing by a lotus pond or a water strider gliding across the water’s surface. He constantly contemplates the balance of dark and light areas, presenting objects from unusual angles to discover fresh, engaging perspectives. His works are imbued with the spirit of Kyoto, conveying the vibrant and unique beauty of Japan’s seasons.

Olga Yakubovskaya works with mixed media, combining ink, watercolor, and occasionally acrylic in her pieces. She balances on the edge of a symbiosis between abstraction and Japanese painting, exploring the various moods of nature while choosing concise, minimalist compositions.
